ARTWORKS: HER FOOTPRINTS ON THE ROCKS
Ang Kanyang Mga Obra
Magdalena mastered her own
traditional inabel pattern skills including binakol (whirlwinds, her specialty), inuritan (geometric patterns), sinan-sabong (flowers), and kusikos (spiral forms). She has also taught herself to recreate patterns even when she does not have an example to go to. Her unrivalled grasp of inabel weaving was recognised in 2012 when she received the GAMABA, or National Living Treasures Award. She is one of only 16 awardees to present.
Inubon a sabong, which translates as "flower string," is a design made by Magdalena Gamayo using a unique and complex weaving method known as "pinilian." This is also the design that led to Magdalena Gamayo's nomination and selection as a Gawad Manlilikha ng Bayan awardee.
Sinan bola-bola is a weaving pattern made up of ball-like shapes.
This design is known as inuritan, and it features a geometric pattern that Magdalena Gamayo taught herself.
Magdalena Gamayo created Kusikos, which is a self-taught design. It has a spiral design identical to oranges and other fruits.
